Just what I read..

Inspired by Nancy Pearl's "Book Lust Journal." I knew I would lose my book journal if I didn't keep it online.

All Night Long

Funny how I'm now dealing with insomnia after reading a book about fear of the dark. This is a departure for Krentz. It's still a romance but do you remember when Catherine Coulter started her cross-over to main stream fiction with the FBI series? That's the feel that I got from this book. Face it, most romance novels do not delve into sexual abuse, pedophilia, murder, and misogynistic families. I think the accusation of psych problems on the part of the hero's family were a bit overdramatic and the plot would have been great without them, it did add to family tension and make for a great exit scene. If this is the start of a cross-over to mainstream fiction, it's a great plot.

Are you ready for a LifeChange?

I've read many motivational books, many of them are geared to selling, many are geared to men, and many only apply to those in the corporate world. Finally, I’ve found a motivational book geared for women who believe that their families are more important that money. I have to admit that I’ve signed up for the mini-course which I’m not sure is still being offered. I’ve accomplished more and been more focused for the last month. I haven’t accomplished everything but I’ve done most of it. It’s definitely been of benefit to me and I recommend it to everyone who isn’t happy with the rut that they are currently in. Portrait in Sepia

I’ve wanting to read Isabel Allende since Zorro hit the best seller list. So I couldn’t help but pick this one up at the library and I’ve loved it so much that I’m looking for Daughter of Fortune which is the prequel that became a best seller. I realize that this is a translation from the original Spanish but if the translator was true to the texture and the flavor of the author, I imagine she would be incredible in the original but I don’t read Spanish. The story is rich with historical details of everyday life in San Francisco, Chinatown and Chile of the 1880’s to early 1900’s. It’s a fascinating tale of people and lives and I really, really want the mythological bed!

The Undomestic Goddess

I think that I probably would have enjoyed this Sophie Kinsella book at some other time in my life. I think I just related too much to having a birthday dinner with people on the cell phone. I cannot, however, see taking my cell phone and blackberry into the spa, or leaving the spa because of work. Maybe that’s why I’m not partner in a high powered law firm. I didn't finish it, it went back to the library.
